northern california cannot catch a break. they are bracing for another drenching on top of the 20" of rain that has fallen in some places. the latest storm is the fur the to slam the region in just a week. the nonstop rain created sinkholes across northern california. this is one road that gave way. it sliced through the utility lines and the winds snapped trees and tower lines and left tens of thousands in the dark. in san francisco, officials say the rain overwhelmed the sewer lines and they had to release 80 million gallons of partly treated sewage into the bay. and now, this is rough out this. >> the last five days they have gotten in some cases close to 2' of rain. a lot of the areas in the mountains and the moisture is squeezed up across the mountains so close to 2' in a few areas. this is the mountains of northern and central california and they could see an additional 1" to 4" of the next round and cold temperatures in the east. but here is the next storm system, portions of oregon, northern california, and washington, you will, again, get an additional 1", 3" or 4" of rain and 1'

near you. >>> northern california, oregon, and washington state are getting just pummeled with rain, and it's the fourth storm in a row since last wednesday which means there's been no time to recover each time these places get hit, and flooding damage, well, just look at your screen, it's an absolute mess. we have crews covering every angle of this storm. dan simon is in lafayette, california, which is in the northeast part of oakland. there's a massive sinkhole there. chad myers is in the cnn weather center watching these storms as they develop. dan, let me start with you. what's the story on the sinkhole? >> reporter: well, as you said, ashleigh, it is a real mess out here. let me show you what's going on. you can see crews here removing some of the debris. this is a massive sinkhole. this is 80 feet long, 15 feet deep, 40 feet wide. let me explain how this happened. there's a creek that runs beneath the concrete, and it got clogged up and it just washed away all the dirt, and with that the road. you got the whole street closed. it's going to be closed for several months. what cr

. satellite radar shows the will of the wet weather still impacting northern california. here in the bay area we are seeing the clouds associated with that system but this is relatively weak in nature. high pressure is changing the track and it is actually staying north. this is a slow mover we will see some showers around santa rosa this afternoon. most of the activity sticks and north of the golden gate bridge today. you can see 3:00 p.m. light rain for napa, fairfield and san raphael. and 10:00 p.m. tonight that some light ride again for santa rosa. it will not build up in intensity. the bulk of the moisture will arrive in the overnight hours. as we pushed the clock and to 8:00 a.m. the peak of your morning commute tomorrow it looks like some light rain around bay area. showers will taper off as we head into tomorrow afternoon. here's a look at your temperatures. warmer compared to yesterday's. 10 degrees warmer compared to 24 hours ago. 51 for snapple. 52 in oakland. half moon bay at 54 degrees 514 napa. upper 50s and the north bay. a lot of cloud cover. 63 for oakland. 634 fremont and re

and the next storm moving into northern california and this one is a very strong one. very significant rain will fall here, some areas eight inches of rain and a lot of the rivers in central california concerned about flooding for today and tonight. and this storm storms by tomorrow, and another one comes in on tuesday, wednesday, lingers a little into thursday and then dry things out and this is the most potent of all and mostly rain, another warm system, but a steady stream of tropical moisture and it will bring light showers throughout parts of the ohio valley, to the great lakes, tonight and this afternoon. and behind it, temps are going to warm up a lot. in fact, today, the temps are extremely warm, across most of the country and pretty much the entire country is above where your average temps are this time of year and tomorrow, we'll see this heat builds further, getting to 61, dleefld, and # 66. and usually we're counting the days to christmas and shopping days left. not this year, the countdown to the fiscal cliff, thanks to our leftist leaders. >> usually count down to christmas, b

over northern california. this is slow moving. it will start to stall out and not be as intense as it bay area. you can see on futurecast 4:09 a.m. later to day light rain picking up from palo. 2:00 p.m. today it will stick north of the golden gate. 2:00 a.m. the overnight hours of light rain it looks like it picks up intensity tomorrow morning and will spread its way south as we head into tomorrow afternoon. your kron 4 7 day around the bay forecast is showing showers from maybe the next 24 hours. after that pretty good conditions. dry conditions around the bay area. we will continue with mild weather as we head into the weekend. that is your weather here in the traffic center. not looking at any hot spots the bay bridge ride is good to go out of oakland into san francisco. very few cars on the road i count them on one hand. no metering lights to deal with. top speed up the incline and pushing for treasure island. >> at the san mateo bridge a different vantage point we consume in the camera later in my next report. it looks like traffic is moving well coming from the toll plaza

hit washington, oregon, and northern california today and more heavy rain is expected to pound the region through tomorrow. flooding is causing problems like sinkholes. cnn's dan simon is standing in front of a huge one in lafayette, california. dan, another round of storms is coming, as wolf said. can that rain-soaked area handle anymore rain? >> reporter: well, it's just a mess, kate, and the forecast is bad news for these rain-soaked communities. let me explain where i am. i'm in lafayette, california, standing inside a sinkhole. this is pretty dramatic. it's 80 feet long, 40 feet wide, 15 deep. let me explain how this happened. the water was gushing beneath the road here. there's a creek. and basically, the soil just ripped away and it caused the street to cave in. crews have been working all day, trying to clear out these large chunks of concrete. they also had to create these alternative lines, these temporary lines for water and sewage to service this neighborhood, so they didn't, you know, go without basic services. the weather has been terrible here in the bay area for

. she died yesterday evening in a plane crash in northern mexico. jenni was a real american success story. she was born in california to immigrants from mexico. started working at her father's small record label in long beach, california, recorded from there there, made a number of top hits, she was recently in florida to receive a billboard aand performed at the the billboard awards. my mom was a huge fan of hers, also kind of equivalent "the voice" in mexico on the telemunddo network. she was a singer in a genre dominated by males. burr she sung frankly about her struggles to give her children a better life in this country. so her death is a real tragedy at a young age, and i know there are millions of people across the country and around the world mourning her loss today. she is survived by her five children and two grandchildren and our prayers go to her that god may grant her family the peace to deal with this difficult circumstance. mr. president, i come here today on december 10, human rights day, and i wanted to briefly discuss human rights because i would just say that whil
